Koombana Bay Foreshore Public Art

The South West Development Commission’s Transforming Bunbury’s Waterfront Project planned to deliver a world class waterfront providing a major destination for locals and visitors that extended from Koombana Bay in the east to Casuarina Boat Harbour and the Bunbury Outer Harbour to the west.

The redevelopment of the Koombana Bay Foreshore was the first stage of this significant project for Bunbury and created a regionally significant coastal recreational area within the Greater Bunbury region. The Koombana Foreshore has ultimately become the pride of the local community; a place where people can kick back and relax, swim, play and laugh, exercise, picnic, dine and enjoy life. Wardandi stories played a major part in the Interpretation and Public Art Plan, prepared in collaboration and consultation with Wardandi Elders.

Outcomes

  • Public Art + Interpretation Plan articulated the cultural and social value of the site with public art and interpretation to be integrated into the Landscape Design.
  • Research and consultation with Wardandi Elders.
  • Reveal the value of Bunbury’s cultural heritage.
  • Researching the history of a place.
  • Revealing cultural heritage through interpretation and public art.
