Kep Walken Winin

Noongar, Whadjuk, Ballardong, artist, Shane Hansen created artworks for both the interior lobby rugs and the exterior landscape design. Shane’s artwork depicts an aerial view of the confluence of the Derbarl Yerrigan (Swan River estuary) and Djarlgarra Beelier (Canning River). The cursive lines sandblasted into the ground plane represent the passage of water, flowing from the hills, through to the river systems. Donnybrook stone boulders are carved with symbols of Noongar boodjar (Noongar country). Shane’s carvings provide the opportunity for touch, a connection to the artwork, the material, and nature. The interior rug artworks symbolise elements connected to the river – raindrops, and middens. The simple, strong line work is at play in the various weaves and carvings of the floor rugs.
