St Bart’s Mural

The St Bart’s renewal project involved creating new shared social and workspaces, and engagement areas that promote communication, accessibility, collaboration, and visibility.

Apparatus was commissioned by St Bart’s to enhance the outdoor areas of the building with public art. Apparatus proposed the involvement of Noongar artist Jade Dolman (JD.Penangke) and Elder Barry McGuire to collaborate with St Bart’s residents and develop ideas for the artwork.

The workshop helped the artist generate ideas based on the values and emotions that residents want to see reflected in the artwork.

The final artwork design incorporated Noongar stories shared by Barry McGuire and themes that are meaningful to the daily lives of the residents. The artwork spans three different locations: the pillars, the wall, and the seating area. The artist decided to include all the concepts discussed during the workshop to be inclusive of the diverse community residing at St Bart’s.

The project aims to share Noongar knowledge with the residents and create an environment that encourages connection, respect, and a sense of belonging among the residents.
