Galleria Morley Mural Artwork

Apparatus was engaged by Vicinity Centres to coordinate the mural artwork: All That We Need Was Found Here.

The project was a collaborative effort between Whadjuk, Ballardong, Arrernte artist Jade Dolman aka JD Penangke, commissioner Vicinity Centres, City of Bayswater and Apparatus.

This mural celebrates the deep cultural and environmental significance of the Morley area. Stretching along the Kmart wall at the Galleria, the artwork is a vibrant visual narrative of the wetlands and biodiversity of this region.

There are snippets of flora and fauna throughout the mural. Within the warm tones, we can find a magpie, Eastern Great Egret, banksias, grevillea, kangaroo’s grazing as well as the tracks of the dingo, goanna and emu.

The cool tones are fragments of life within the wetlands featuring the long-necked turtle, samphire, bulrush, sedge, freshwater crayfish, freshwater mussels and a fishing basket.

Developed in consultation with Jade’s family and students from Hampton Senior High School, this artwork is a snippet of the ancient wetland ecosystem. This site was and continues to be an important gathering place for food, family, and culture.
